Can anyone join the cycling bus?
Yes, once a parent/guardian completes the participation form any student can join in. Do parents need to accompany their child? If the child is in Junior/Senior infants, or 1st/2nd class, they must be accompanied by a parent along the entire route. How many marshals will be with the bus? There will be four marshals with the bus every day. One at the front, two on the outside of the group, and one at the end. How long will the bus take? The bus will take approximately 15 mins from Cappagh Park to KNS. It will take approximately 20 mins from Cappagh Park to GMA Will the speed be appropriate for my child? The pace will be slow and consistent, and suitable for any child. The pace will be dictated by the marshals. Are hi-vis vests and helmets mandatory? No. Hi-vis vests will be distributed free of charge for those students who would like them. Helmet use will be at the discretion of the parents. Will you be using the cycle lanes? Where the cycle lanes exists, we will be using them. In areas with no cycle lanes, the children will be cycling on the path. What if the weather is unsuitable? We hope that this service can continue in most weathers. However, during days of torrential rain, ice or snow we will cancel the service. We will update our social media accounts and other communication channels as required. Is waterproof rain gear required? Where possible yes. Please contact us if you need details of where to buy appropriate clothing. Is there insurance? Your child will be covered by the Schools insurance policy. Please contact the school for more information. What will happen in the case of an accident? One of our marshals will be qualified in first aid, and will treat any injuries should the need arise. An accident report form will be filled out. What will happen if a child gets a puncture or mechanical issue? Our Marshals will have spare tubes for all tire sizes and pump. All parents must ensure the bikes are in good mechanical condition. Is the cyclebus one way only? Yes. In the future we may run a cycle bus after school if the demand and support are available. Do you have more routes planned for the future? Yes. We have a route mapped and timetabled to service Educate Together and Steiner primary schools on the Cappagh Road. With parental support, this can be rolled out at any time. More routes are being planned. |
